Atletico Madrid will be bidding to reach the last 16 for the seventh time in the last eight years but have had inconsistent results in recent weeks winning three and losing three of their last eight matches, but have won each of their last two home games, scoring four goals in each.

The runaway Serie A leaders head into Tuesday’s tie, which they need to win by at least two clear goals, having won seven of their last eight matches in all competitions, with their sole defeat in that run coming against Tuesday’s opposition.

Bodo/Glimt’s last four competitive matches have all come in the Champions League do their league campaign having ended in November, and have since drawn with Borussia Dortmund and beaten Man City, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan.

Eddie Howe’s side have won three of their last four matches in all competition and have earned the opportunity to rest a handful of their players on Tuesday as they focus their attentions on the league with their last 16 spot all but confirmed.

Qarabag have already made history this season by becoming the first ever Azerbaijani team to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League, but will only be playing for pride ahead of their trip to Tyneside this week following their 6-1 home defeat in the first leg.

Borussia Dortmund earned a 2-0 home win last weekend which they’ll take to Italy for Wednesday’s early kick off, and will make the trip having won four or of their last five matches.

The second placed side in the Bundesliga had a disappointing league phase in the Champions League, winning only three of their eight matches but appear to have now found the right form to book their place in the last 16.

Atalanta also head into Wednesday’s bout in strong form though, also with four wins in their last five matches following an impressive win over Napoli on Sunday, so will back themselves at turning their tie with Dortmund around, though will need to win by at least two.

Italian giants Juventus have something of a mountain to climb on Wednesday to keep their European campaign alive after falling to a 5-2 hammering in Istanbul last week at the hands of Galatasaray.

The Serie A side head into Wednesday knowing they must win by three clear goals, but do so having lost four of their last five matches, conceding 15 goals across them.

On the other hand, Galatasaray head to Italy to protect their three-goal lead having won five of their last six matches, as they bid to reach the Champions League’s last 16 for the first time in 12 years, but did fall to defeat in their most recent outing on Saturday evening.

Last season’s treble winners climbed back to the top of the Ligue 1 table on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Metz, their fourth win in the last five matches, and had Monaco to thank for it after their Wednesday opponents ended a run of one win in four with a win at league leaders Lens.

The side from the principality have won only three of their last 10 matches though, and need to find a win at a stadium they haven’t won at in five years.

Real Madrid’s run of eight wins in nine matches came to a surprise end on Saturday evening with a surprise 2-1 defeat at Osasuna, which saw them relinquish their place at the top of La Liga.

Meanwhile Benfica, still unbeaten in the league all season despite sitting third in the table, returned to winning ways following last week’s midweek defeat, but head to the Bernabeu with out victory in four of their last six matches on the road.
