Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum appears on track to play in Game 7 against the Philadelphia 76ers after what has been described as a “positive” update following his early exit in Game 6.

Tatum left Thursday night’s 106–93 loss in the second half after experiencing discomfort in his leg, raising immediate concern given his recent return from an Achilles rupture suffered during last year’s postseason. However, the initial outlook from within the organization has suggested the issue is not considered serious.

ESPN’s Shams Charania provided an update Friday morning on Get Up, indicating optimism surrounding Tatum’s availability.

“It’s positive right now. Everyone in Boston is downplaying anything with Jayson Tatum that this was even an injury. Joe Mazzulla denied that it was an injury at all. Jayson Tatum said after the game that it was just stiffness that he felt in his leg. I’m told that Jayson Tatum told teammates after the game he’s fine, he’s good to go. So, I think the expectation in Boston is Game 7 Jayson Tatum is all good.”

Tatum finished Game 6 with 17 points, 11 rebounds and three assists while shooting 6-for-13 from the field and 2-for-6 from three-point range. He played 29 minutes before exiting as Boston struggled to keep pace with Philadelphia down the stretch.

Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla also downplayed the situation following the game.

“No. He went in the back, just got stretched, got some treatment,” Mazzulla said, per Bobby Manning of Celtics on CLNS. “That was about it.”

Tatum echoed a similar sentiment in his postgame remarks.

“You guys probably saw when I went to the back, saw me on the bike, my leg just was a little stiff when I came out third quarter.”

“But just kind of assessing the moment, the game was a little out of reach.”

The 27-year-old has been working his way back into form since returning nearly two months ago on March 6, following the Achilles injury that ended his previous postseason run. Since then, he has appeared in 22 games as Boston has managed his workload carefully down the stretch.

Game 7 now looms as a decisive moment for both teams. The Celtics will return to TD Garden on Saturday night with a chance to advance to the second round, where a potential rematch with the New York Knicks awaits — the same opponent Boston faced when Tatum suffered his injury last postseason.

With the series on the line, Tatum’s status remains the central storyline. Based on the latest updates, Boston is operating under the expectation that its franchise cornerstone will be available when the Celtics take the floor.
