Celtics’ Jaylen Brown admits fixes needed for Game 7 vs. 76ers

The Boston Celtics are in serious danger. After another brutal loss in Game 6, Boston has officially squandered their 3-1 lead over the Philadelphia 76ers. Despite holding a dominant lead over their rivals, Philly is coming back into the series thanks in large part to Joel Embiid’s efforts.

The loss to the Sixers on the road sets up a do-or-die Game 7 between Philly and the Celtics. It’s clear that the Sixers have all the momentum in the world coming into that game. Star forward Jaylen Brown recognizes that Game 7 is a completely different monster than the rest of the series, but that it’s a chance for Boston to throw away their awful games so far and prove that they’re the better team.

“Yeah, Game 7 is a game amongst itself in the sense [that] the rest of the series doesn’t matter, who’s going to show up on that day and be the better performing team,” Brown said. “We definitely have some stuff that I see that I can that would shift my approach going into game seven. I’m looking forward to coming out with a great fight.”

The Celtics held a 3-1 lead after the first four games, banking on the performances from the group that led them all the way to the second seed. Boston also benefitted from the absence of Embiid early in the series due to an emergency appendectomy. A win over the 76ers even with Embiid back in the roster seemed to be a good sign that the Celtics would be able to put away their long-time rivals for good.

As it turns out, that game was just the calm before the storm. Embiid would become a pivotal presence in their Game 5 win, showing flashes of his MVP form to lead his team to a win with 33 points, eight assists, and five rebounds. While he was quieter in Game 6, his gravity paved the way for Tyrese Maxey (30 points) and Paul George (23 points) to dish out a clutch win to keep themselves in the hunt

Game 7 of the series will be played in Boston. The Celtics have been in this situation before, nearly losing a 3-0 lead over the Miami Heat in the 2022 Conference Finals before putting the underdogs away in Game 7. Can Boston avoid being put in the history books as the 14th team to lose a 3-1 lead in the NBA?
