Carlos Rodon injury plan surfaces as Yankees takes cautious approach

The New York Yankees have been patiently waiting for Carlos Rodon to make his 2026 debut. Now, they have a plan in place for his return to the major leagues.

Rodon is set to throw a live bullpen session on Saturday before advancing to minor league rehab starts, via Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. Manager Aaron Boone is expecting Rodon to make at least three appearances on his rehab assignment.

The left-hander is working his way back from offseason elbow surgery and newfound hamstring tightness. New York is staying cautious as the last thing they want is to risk re-injury, especially this early in the season. The Yankees will continue to closely monitor Rodon under their new plan and hope that no setbacks occur.

When Rodon does make his return to the rotation, it’ll be a massive boon for New York. He is coming off of an All-Star campaign, pitching to a 3.09 ERA and a 203/73 K/BB ratio. The left-hander’s three years and 79 games pitched for the Yankees has resulted in a 4.00 ERA and a 462/158 K/BB ratio.

Alongside Rodon, the franchise also has Gerrit Cole and Clarke Schmidt on the injured list. The Yankees know that when they return to the rotation, they become a much scarier opponent and that their World Series chances will increase.

But the first step of that plan is actually getting them back on the mound. When it comes to Rodon, New York has thought carefully about how to handle his injury return. Assuming all goes well during his rehab assignment, New York will expect the left-handers transition back to the majors to run smoothly.
