Cade Smith reveals how Guardians keep turning pitchers into stars
The Cleveland Pitching Factory continues to impress. For those who may not be aware, the Cleveland Guardians are known as one of the best teams in MLB when it comes to developing pitchers. So, what’s their secret? Star closer Cade Smith recently commented on the subject during an interview with MLB Network.
“I think the thing that I noticed when I first signed and started that really intense developmental pursuit was that there was no one I came across who was naive enough to think that they knew everything,” Smith said. “So any question that I asked, they would recognize it and be like, ‘I’m going to check back with the group. Like I recognize that this might be outside of my area of expertise, I’m going to check with the experts we do have in that field and then we’re going to get back with you with a cohesive answer and continue the conversation that way.'”
Having a team behind the scenes is crucial. The Guardians clearly care about pitching, and they have people all around the organization who can help in different areas of the game.
The success has been undeniable for Cleveland. They have consistently developed All-Star caliber pitchers in both the rotation and bullpen in recent years. Cade Smith is a perfect example, as he has become arguably the best closer in the American League.
The 27-year-old currently holds a 2.83 ERA. His 21 saves lead the league. The Guardians believe in Smith, and he is emerging as a superstar.
