On Sunday, the Chicago Bulls announced the devastating news that legendary broadcaster and former player Stacey King had passed away at the age of 59.

“Stacey King was a cherished member of the Bulls family and one of the truly unique personalities in our organization’s history… We will miss him deeply and remember the joy, energy, humor, candor, and passion he brought to our organization, our broadcasts, and our fans every day. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones,” said Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf in a statement, per the team’s official account on X, formerly Twitter.

“We were fortunate to know him not only as a player and broadcaster, but as a friend. Stacey genuinely cared about people, and he made our organization better,” said Michael Reinsdorf’s statement in part.

King was a member of the Bulls’ first three-peat from 1991-1993 before playing for other organizations, including the Minnesota Timberwolves, Dallas Mavericks, and Boston Celtics.

He became a commentator for the Bulls beginning full-time in the 2007 season and has since become a fan favorite for his enthusiasm and unique commentating style, frequently using signature catchphrases such as “Elizabeth!” and other fun signature calls to engage viewers.

King was on the mic during Derrick Rose’s rise in the Windy City during the early 2010s, helping to capture the excitement that the hometown kid brought to the city during his MVP years. He continued to keep up the energy even when the Bulls started to experience some losing in recent years, making headlines for his epic call of Josh Giddey’s game-winner against the Los Angeles Lakers last season.

Overall, King established himself as a living legend in the Chicago community and will be sorely missed by the entire organization.
