Bucks’ Bobby Portis blasted teammates with NSFW practice rant after 45-point loss to Nets

The Milwaukee Bucks will miss the playoffs for the first time in nine years. It is easy to see why. Aside from their woeful record, the Bucks have been hounded by numerous issues throughout the season, leading to a murky environment.

The Bucks defeated the Memphis Grizzlies, 131-115, on Sunday, but they are just 3-7 in their last 10 games for a 31-47 card and 11th place in the Eastern Conference.

The internal dysfunction came to a head in December, according to a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania. Milwaukee was at practice after losing by 45 points to the Brooklyn Nets. The players, however, were simply “going through the motions,” which did not sit well with Bobby Portis, who “erupted at teammates.”

“This is why we suck. We carry ourselves like everything is fine, and we have no f****** urgency. We just lost by 45. Everybody’s body language is terrible. No one is listening to coaches,” said Portis.

Giannis Antetokounmpo did not play against the Nets as he was nursing a calf injury. Portis, for his part, had 10 points and three rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench.

It was the Bucks’ 11th loss in 14 games at that time, and the 31-year-old Portis had enough, calling out his teammates to hold them accountable.

His rant somehow worked, as Milwaukee went 5-5 in its next 10 assignments before spiraling again.

Big changes are likely looming for the Bucks in the offseason. It has been reported that there is already a “prime candidate” to replace coach Doc Rivers if he steps down or gets fired.

Antetokounmpo, who was booed at Fiserv Forum in January, could also leave after a season fraught with rumors and a lack of transparency about his future.

Portis, meanwhile, signed a three-year extension worth $44 million in June. He is currently out with a wrist injury.
