Brutal Red Sox season gets even worse with Isiah Kiner-Falefa injury move
The Boston Red Sox don’t need any more bad news as they stumble along in the American League East cellar, but that’s just what they received Saturday. Infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa has been placed on the Injured List with left forearm inflammation.
While Kiner-Falefa is not a superstar, he has recently filled the team’s need at second base. Kiner-Falefa has played 47 games for the Red Sox this season. He is slashing .277/.344/.361 with 2 home runs and 13 RBI. He has stolen 7 bases for the Red Sox this season.
Infielder Anthony Seigler has been recalled from Triple-A Worcester to take Kiner-Falefa’s place on the roster.
The Red Sox have a 30-43 record this season and they are a full 15.0 games behind the first-place New York Yankees. They trail the fourth-place Orioles by 3.0 games. While a majority of American League teams have been struggling this season, the Red Sox are still 6.5 games out of the last Wild Card spot, which is currently held by the Athletics with a 38-38 record.
Injuries just part of the problem for Red Sox
The Red Sox have been troubled by injuries to key players, but that is not the only reason for their struggles this year. They have failed to hit the ball with authority as they rank 29th out of 30 in home runs this season with 62 long balls. Their inability to hit home runs or get key hits with runners on base has kept the team from taking advantage of the solid starting pitching it has received throughout the majority of the season.
The Red Sox have been without star pitcher Garrett Crochet and young phenom Roman Anthony since the early part of the season. They are hoping Crochet can return shortly after the All-Star Game, but there is no timeline for Anthony’s return from a wrist injury.
