Browns’ Alex Wright has must-hear Myles Garrett trade story

It is a new era for the Cleveland Browns—yet again—after they traded defensive end Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for linebacker Jared Verse and three future draft picks.

It came as a surprise to many, since Garrett was the face of the Browns. But general manager Andrew Berry said they felt it was time to move on from the two-time Defensive Player of the Year, who had already demanded a trade in 2025.

In a media conference on Tuesday, Berry explained that the offer of the Rams seemed “really beneficial” to Cleveland, convincing him to pull the trigger on the deal.

As for defensive end Alex Wright, he needed some time to make sense of the trade, hilariously recalling the moment he knew that Garrett was out of the Browns.

“Someone told me to go on Twitter. I thought it was like a fake trade or something like that. I remember I got a text and I got the ESPN notification, and then when I saw Adam Schefter, I was like, ‘Yeah, let me go get a drink very quick,'” said Wright in the video posted by Schefter.

He added that his phone blew up, with people calling him. Still, he had to really check if the trade was legit.

“I turned on the TV, it’s on YouTube, it’s on Twitter, it’s on Facebook, it’s on Instagram. When I went on my Instagram, it was straight down the timeline. I was like, ‘This can’t be real.’ I was in denial for a few hours. But yeah, I was just on the back patio with dogs, just chilling, stuff like that. I just talked to my mom a little bit. I was really shocked,” added Wright.

With the 30-year-old Garrett gone, the 25-year-old Wright will likely have a heavier load in Cleveland.

While the departure of the seven-time All-Pro will hurt, it could be a blessing in disguise for some guys to get more opportunities.

Wright is coming off a breakout campaign, registering career-highs of 37 total tackles, 21 solo tackles, and 12 tackles for loss.
