Broadcaster suffers blackout at key moment that almost denies England fans a goal

Television coverage of England’s clash with DR Congo cut out just as Jude Bellingham had a huge chance to equalise.

Minutes into the second half of the Three Lions’ round of 32 clash, supporters at home were left in the dark as a black screen appeared during the BBC coverage.

With England trailing 1-0, this couldn’t have come at a worse time, as key man Bellingham’s deflected cross headed goalwards, only for fans to have no idea what happened next.

While viewers were left unsure over the outcome, DR Congo goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi scrambled over to his near post to parry it upwards.

This left England remaining 1-0 down although they hit back through a close-range header by Harry Kane on 75 minutes.
