Brian Windhorst reveals biggest issue with Julius Randle Timberwolves trade

Happy NBA Draft Day, hoop fans! The past 24 hours have been crazy as multiple blockbuster trades have been completed ahead of one of the biggest days on the NBA calendar.

Hours before the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade that sent him to the Miami Heat for Tyler Herro and many draft picks, the Minnesota Timberwolves traded away Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets in a three-team trade including the Chicago Bulls.

The NBA is going to look extremely different later this year and in 2027.

One day after this Randle trade to the Nets, NBA Insider Brian Windhorst revealed why he has an issue with the Timberwolves’ plans, and it could affect their star player, Anthony Edwards.

“The issue is that they trade him (Randle) for a salary dump for nothing,” Windhorst said. “Their team is not complete, their offseason is not complete, they created a $30 million trade exception. But making moves like cutting salary when you have Ant Endwards in his prime is something the league is paying attention to.”

Edwards is going to eventually win an NBA Finals. He is too talented not to, and has the experience of making deep playoff runs. As Windhorst said, the Timberwolves cannot afford to let him leave. He is one of the most valuable players in the league, and his time is coming.

ClutchPoints’ NBA Draft Coverage is going off right now. Insider Brett Siegel revealed his Mock Draft 5.0 ahead of the big night. “Get your popcorn ready because this year’s draft is filled with a ton of talented prospects, and we should expect plenty more trades.”

Draft trades are the best. Fans are already excited for the future of their favorite team, but a trade gives hope for contention. There are some big names who could get traded this week, but all eyes will be on the top rookies in the 2026 Draft Class.
