Brewers manager Pat Murphy shows love to UW-Milwaukee during post-game presser

The College World Series is always full of magical moments and surprise teams making runs. This year, West Virginia advanced, leading to their fans breaking into song. While WVU broke into celebration, they were expected to advance out of their region. The same was true for Auburn, but they almost fell victim to a massive upset.

Auburn faced elimination on Monday at the hands of UW-Milwaukee. Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Brewers showed support for the local college team, including manager Pat Murphy.

Murphy donned the UW-Milwaukee hat at his post-game press conference. The press conference took place while the Panthers were battling Auburn for a chance to play in the Super Regionals. The run in the Auburn Regional came to an end on Monday, with an 8-3 loss to Auburn.

UM-Milwaukee was under .500 heading into the College World Series. The team opened the season 5-23, but made a run from there, winning the Horizon League and getting a berth in the College World Series. They then upset Auburn in their first game of the College World Series, winning 13-8. After beating UCF, Milwaukee was just one game away from the Super Regional. Still, they fell to Auburn on Sunday and again on Monday, being eliminated from the tournament.

Despite the loss, Gregg Olson, who announced the game for ESPN, praised the team.

“This Milwaukee team brought a lot of life, and brought a lot of national attention to themselves,” Olson said after Monday’s game. “It was just so much fun to watch, and it was hard to root not to root for them.”

The Brewers manager could not resist rooting for them either. While the season is over for Milwaukee, the season continued for Auburn. They will face Ole Miss in a best-of-three series with a chance to head to Omaha.
