Brayan Bello’s latest minor league start will catch Red Sox attention

The 2026 season has been a disaster for the Boston Red Sox. They find themselves buried in last place in the American League East and they have the worst record in the American League. The Red Sox lost 2 of 3 games to the Colorado Rockies, the team that is generally considered the worst in Major League Baseball.

The fact that they defeated the Yankees 6-3 Thursday night at Fenway Park does not mitigate their brutal first half of the season.

There are multiple reasons for the Red Sox failures this season. One of them has been the brutal starting pitching effort of Brayan Bello. After three solid seasons with the Red Sox, Bellow fell apart this year. He had a 2-6 record with a 6.34 earned run average. Bello gave up 10 home runs in 61.0 innings and the Red Sox demoted him to Worcester after his brutal performance this year.

He made his third start for the Worcester — known affectionately as the WooSox —  Thursday night. It was a solid effort as he was on the mound for 5 innings. Bello gave up 5 hits but just one earned run. He struck out six batters, walked two and had 54 strikes among his 85 pitches.

The Red Sox have been hurt by key injuries to ace left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet and phenom Roman Anthony. Crochet has been out since late April while Anthony has not been in the lineup since early May.

The Red Sox biggest issue this year has been their poor performance at home. Even with the win over the Yankees, they are 13-25 at Fenway Park this season.
