Braves’ World Series creds are legit with another Cubs smackdown to hit 30 wins
After missing the playoffs in 2025, the Atlanta Braves entered 2026 looking to make a splash. They have done that and more, leading MLB baseball in wins through mid-May.
With a 4-1 win over the Chicago Cubs, the Braves moved to 30-13 on the season. They are the first team in all of baseball to reach 30 wins. Furthermore, Atlanta holds nine game lead in the NL East, the largest difference for any division leader.
Against the Cubs, the Braves had an unlikely hero come through in Mike Yastrzemski. Tied at one in the bottom of the eighth inning, a Yastrzemski double drove in the go-ahead run. A two-run home run from Mauricio Dubon would then put the final nail in the coffin.
The outfielder has now played 40 games with the Braves. He believes the key to Atlanta’s rise has been their selfless attitude, via ESPN News Services.
“There’s no egos here,” said Yastrzemski. “Nobody feels like they own any piece of this team. We’re all pulling on the same rope together, the same direction. Whatever opportunities come for you that day, that’s good enough.”
Following Wednesday’s win, the Braves now rank first in MLB with 237 runs scored. On the flip side, Atlanta’s 3.06 ERA also lead the league. The franchise is playing their best baseball at the moment and is hopeful their momentum carries through the entire season.
At the same time, being the first team with 30 wins will certainly place a target on your back. Teams will bring their best against you. Atlanta must be prepared to take on and defeat any challengers.
