Braves pitcher set to return from IL before Padres clash
As the Atlanta Braves were walked off by the San Diego Padres on Tuesday, the team is looking to end the series on a high note, as the latest injury news is a good sign. Though the Braves are dealing with other injuries, like star Ronald Acuna Jr., the team has announced the return of a key relief pitcher.
Posting to their social media platforms before Wednesday’s game against the Padres, Atlanta is bringing back Tyler Kinley from the injured list (IL), sending down JR Ritchie to the minor leagues.
“The Braves today reinstated RHP Tyler Kinley from the injured list after optioning RHP JR Ritchie to Triple-A Gwinnett. The club also selected RHP Ian Hamilton to the major league roster and designated RHP Carlos Carrasco for assignment,” the team announced on its X, formerly Twitter, account.
This season so far, Kinley has recorded a 3.18 ERA to go along with 31 strikeouts and a 4-2 record in 31 games and 28.1 innings pitched. While his return will be needed for the Braves’ bullpen, the team is still waiting on Acuna’s return, as he is dealing with a Grade 1 hamstring strain.
MLB.com would note that Acuna didn’t join Atlanta for the series and won’t be for the slate against the San Francisco Giants, as a return after the All-Star break is more likely.
“Didn’t accompany Braves on the current road trip, which runs through June 28. Team is being cautious as he deals with his second hamstring strain since the start of May. Might not return until after the All-Star break,” MLB.com wrote on Tuesday.
At any rate, it remains to be seen how the return of Kinley impacts the Braves.
