Braves’ Ozzie Albies walks off Brewers with epic home run

Behind a pair of home runs from Ozzie Albies, one of them a dramatic ninth-inning walk-off, the Atlanta Braves got the better of the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 at Truist Park on Saturday to take the series.

In the fifth inning, Albies went deep for a solo homer, putting an end to Brewers left-hander Kyle Harrison’s early stranglehold on the game. Harrison had carried a perfect game into the fifth and allowed only four hits and two runs over 6 1/3 innings, while beginning his outing with four hitless frames.

The game remained close after Albies’ first homer, but a costly moment in the sixth shifted momentum. Albies misplayed a double-play grounder by Brice Turang, contributing to two unearned runs that gave Milwaukee a 2-1 lead. Braves starter Chris Sale finished his outing with 5 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and two unearned runs while striking out seven and walking one over 101 pitches.

The Brewers stretched their lead in the seventh when Andrew Vaughn added a run-scoring single off Didier Fuentes, making it 3-1. Atlanta later battled back to 3-2 entering the ninth inning after timely hitting kept them within reach.

In the final frame, Matt Olson singled off Aaron Ashby with one out, setting the stage for Albies’ second game-winning swing. Albies launched a two-run walk-off home run for his 12th homer of the season, giving Atlanta a 4-3 win. The blast was his fourth career walk-off home run and made him the first Braves player since Justin Upton in 2013 to record multiple home runs in a game that included a walk-off homer.

Ashby, who entered with a 10-1 record, suffered his first loss after failing to secure the save. Dylan Lee earned the win after pitching a scoreless ninth, improving to 3-0.

Atalanta improved to 3-25 when trailing after eight innings this season following the comeback win.
