Braves fans blast Bryce Elder after eight-run inning disaster vs Brewers

The Atlanta Braves had a solid first two games of their series against the Milwaukee Brewers, winning both in narrow fashion, including a walkoff home run from Ozzie Albies on Saturday night. Unfortunately, those good vibes came to an end on Sunday, as the Braves fell back into the loss column with a 9-4 home loss.

Eight of the Brewers’ nine runs came in the second inning against Braves pitcher Bryce Elder, who had a strong start to the year but has started to taper off significantly over the last few weeks, and needless to say, fans on X, formerly Twitter, were not thrilled with the starter’s performance on Sunday.

“Bryce Elder had a 1.97 ERA on April 27th, going into a start on the road in Boston. Since then: 22 innings, 24 runs on 34 hits (five homers) and seven walks. That’s an ERA of 9.82,” pointed out one user.

“Bryce Elder’s cinderella run was fun but it’s over. He’s been really bad for a month now,” wrote another.

It’s been a particularly brutal stretch for Elder over his last few starts.

“Elder has now given up 19 earned runs in his last 21 innings,” wrote one fan.

Overall, Elder was one of the many Braves pitchers tasked with a bigger workload than expected this year due to various injury absences, including those of starters Spencer Strider and Spencer Schwellenbach. While Atlanta’s pitching staff held down the fort for the first couple of months of the season, allowing the team to race out to the best record in baseball, some cracks in the armor have started to show, and the team will need some injury reinforcements or a trade sooner rather than later.
