Braves bring Carlos Carrasco back once again on minor league contract

The Atlanta Braves have been working the system with starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco, consistently DFAing him to clear waivers and then re-signing him on minor-league deals. After acquiring the righty from the New York Yankees during the 2025 season, he has been serving in a depth pitching role in the event of injuries and needed rest.

Despite the constant fluctuation in his roster status, Carrasco pitched well in his 2.1 innings for the Braves this season, allowing just one hit. It is a welcome change from the 9.88 ERA he gave Atlanta in three appearances last season. Nevertheless, Carrasco is now getting another chance to stick around, according to Grant McAuley via X, formerly Twitter.

“The #Braves re-signed veteran RHP Carlos Carrasco to a minor league deal. He was DFA’ed on Tuesday when Raisel Iglesias was activated from the injured list,” McAuley reported.

Carrasco will report to the minors in Gwinnett, where he has also been performing well this season in four appearances. Through the four games, he appeared in 21 innings and allowed just four earned runs. It hasn’t been enough yet for the Braves to give him a full-time look in the majors, but as his confidence builds, he could get that opportunity.

The Braves will stash him in AAA for now with most of their injuries behind them, but he’ll be one of the first options if they have anyone else go down. If he can stick in the organization for the remainder of the season, he’ll also be a September roster option for the Braves’ likely push to the World Series.
