Blue Jays’ John Schneider gives promising George Springer injury update
As Toronto Blue Jays star George Springer left Saturday’s game against the Minnesota Twins after getting hit by a pitch, people have been wondering when his return would be. With fans waiting for any updates on the Blue Jays slugger, manager John Schneider would provide a huge one.
While Springer won’t be in the starting lineup for Monday’s contest against the Tampa Bay Rays, he will be coming off the bench, and the hope is that he’ll be back for Tuesday.
“George Springer ‘probably going to be available off the bench today and hopefully good to go tomorrow,’ per John Schneider,” Ben Nicholson-Smith wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Springer would take a pitch to the top of his left foot in Saturday’s 11-4 win over the Twins, which is the same area where he had a fractured toe injury. However, Schneider would say that there is “no further damage” to the toe or foot, as reported by Shi Davidi.
“John Schneider said X-Rays revealed no further damage to George Springer’s toe or foot. Pitch struck off the guard he’s wearing over the cleat. Blue Jays planned to rest him Sunday anyway, and ‘we’ll see how he is throughout the day tomorrow and on Monday,’ the manager added,” Davidi wrote on X.
Blue Jays’ John Schneider eases concerns about George Springer
So far this season, Springer has played 18 games, recording a .212 batting average to go along with two home runs and seven RBIs, as the 36-year-old has had his fair share of injuries. Schneider would say after Saturday’s game, where Springer got the injury, that “it’s not any worse than it was.”
“It went right off that guard he has on his spikes, thankfully. You probably saw him just laughing as he was sitting there on the ground. We’ll see how he is. I love that the X-rays are negative and there’s not anything else going on with his toe,” Schneider said, via MLB.com.
At any rate, the expectation appears to be that fans will see Springer back in the lineup on Tuesday against the Rays.
