Blazers’ Tiago Splitter calls out ‘exaggerations, clickbait’ in reporting about his future

Tiago Splitter set the record straight when it comes to his relationship with the Portland Trail Blazers’ front office, especially with owner Tom Dundon.

Splitter embraced the reins of the interim head coaching position following Chauncey Billups’ absence due to the federal investigation on gambling that involves him. Splitter prevailed in his first season, leading Portland to its first playoff berth since 2022.

However, rumors have been going around that Portland might not keep Splitter due to Dundon’s cost-cutting measures possibly extending to the head coaching position. It is that rumor where Splitter revealed his thoughts on the situation as the offseason approaches for the franchise, per reporter Sean Highkin.

“I’ve already told you guys I want to stay. But we’ve got to go through some things. I think there are some things that are exaggerations and clickbait. I have a good relationship with Tom and with Joe,” Splitter said.

What lies ahead for Tiago Splitter, Trail Blazers

Tiago Splitter is more than deserving of a long conversation for his place on the Porland Trail Blazers’ coaching staff. Whether Chauncey Billups returns to the team or nor, Splitter has certainly done a lot to give Portland a lot of promise to look forward to.

Splitter coached the Blazers from the second game onward as their interim coach, leading them to a 42-39 record. This allowed them to qualify for the play-in tournament, beating the Phoenix Suns to secure the seventh seed in the Western Conference bracket of the playoffs.

They competed well against Victor Wembanyama and the 62-win San Antonio Spurs, even stunning them in Game 2 on the road. However, Wembanyama and his squad proved to be too much for Portland to handle, seeing the team lose in five games.

Portland got to see Deni Avdija earn the first All-Star selection of his career, averaging 24.2 points, 6.9 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game. They will look forward to his immense growth while retooling the roster throughout the offseason, especially with Damian Lillard making a full recovery for next season.
