Blazers’ Deni Avdija finds silver lining after historic performance in Game 1 loss to Spurs
The Portland Trail Blazers opened their NBA Playoffs run with a 111-98 loss to the San Antonio Spurs, but Deni Avdija still found meaning in the moment. Portland struggled on both ends. Shots did not fall. Defensive rotations slipped. Yet the game never fully slipped away. That alone gave the Blazers something to build on. More importantly, Avdija delivered a performance that turned heads across the league.
In his playoff debut, Avdija recorded 30 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. That placed him alongside LeBron James and Julius Erving in NBA history. Still, the Blazers forward refused to dwell on it.

“At the end of the day, numbers are something beautiful… but right now I’m not focusing on that,” Avdija said. “I’m doing everything on the court in order to win.” His tone stayed steady. Focused. Team-first. Whether he scores 30 or 10, the goal remains the same—win.
Blazers perspective over performance
Even with the loss, Deni Avdija emphasized growth. Instead, he pointed to effort. Execution. Missed chances. “Playoffs is playoffs,” he said. “There are still games to be played… I’d assume that they’ll be more aggressive in the next game.” Because of that, the expectation carries weight. The Spurs controlled tempo. They capitalized on mistakes. The Blazers, meanwhile, showed flashes but lacked consistency.
At the same time, support inside the locker room continues to grow. Scoot Henderson praised his teammate without hesitation. “Deni is an amazing talent… Swiss army knife,” he said. “It’s so fun to play with him.” As a result, that kind of presence matters. Especially in a young Blazers squad still finding its identity.

"What else is there to be said about Deni? How do you also describe him as a leader?"Scoot:
"That's amazing, first of all. Congratulations to Deni,… pic.twitter.com/fCcODtb2Bz— MrBuckBuck (@MrBuckBuckNBA) April 20, 2026
Under the bright lights, Avdija did not shy away. He embraced it. “It gives me more motivation. I enjoy these kinds of moments,” he said. Now, the series shifts forward. Adjustments will come. Pressure will rise.
So, the question is simple: can Deni Avdija lead the Blazers to turn NBA Playoffs promise into a response?
