Blackhawks’ CEO Danny Wirtz drops Connor Bedard truth bomb after Kyle Davidson extension

The Chicago Blackhawks just extended general manager Kyle Davidson to a major contract extension. Now, CEO Danny Wirtz is focused on extending Connor Bedard to a new contract, according to a season recap on NHL.com.

“We couldn’t be happier with how Connor has shown up every single night, the way he competes, the way he leads this team in many ways. Our intention is to absolutely get him signed and have him be a Blackhawk for a long time,” Wirtz told NHL.com.

Wirtz has been steadfast on Bedard remaining with the Hawks. After the season concluded, there is more urgency to get their star signed. Bedard just completed the final season of his three-year, entry-level contract. Now, he is eligible to become a restricted free agent on July 1. That means that any team can match or topple any contract the Hawks offer.

Bedard just had another great season, finishing with 30 goals and 75 total points. Currently, he has 203 total points in 219 career games. The Blackhawks finished the season with a record of 29-39-14, while missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the sixth straight season. Yet, they also finished with 72 points, which was an 11-point improvement over their 2024-25 season. Davidson acknowledged the gratitude of the Blackhawks’ ownership and had faith in what they could still accomplish.

“I am extremely grateful for the support that Danny Wirtz has shown me these last four years. His commitment to our shared vision for the future of the Blackhawks has been vital to the success we’ve seen as we’ve worked to build our roster into a team that can compete for years to come,” Davidson added.

Many eyes will be on the Hawks and what type of contract they offer Bedard in the offseason.
