Blackhawks already open to trading pick after 2026 NHL Draft Lottery
The 2026 NHL Draft Lottery was conducted on Tuesday night. And it was the Toronto Maple Leafs who won the first overall pick. The Chicago Blackhawks had the third-highest odds to win the lottery. However, they will pick fourth in the 2026 NHL Draft. At least, Kyle Davidson currently holds the fourth pick.
The Blackhawks are looking to turn the corner on their rebuild. Chicago wants to be like the Anaheim Ducks and Buffalo Sabres, two teams that made the playoffs this year after building for so long. As a result, Davidson has made it known he is open for business if there is another team willing to tango.
“Kyle Davidson said he’d be open to trading the fourth-overall pick, but did note that those trades rarely happen. He said position won’t matter if the Blackhawks are making that pick,” The Athletic’s Scott Powers reported on Tuesday night.
Chicago has picked quite high in recent NHL Drafts. In 2023, they owned the first overall pick, selecting Connor Bedard. A year later, they used the second overall pick on defenseman Artyom Levshunov. And in 2025, they used the third overall pick on forward Anton Frondell.
The Blackhawks made a little progress under Jeff Blashill in 2025-26. Chicago wasn’t close to making the Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, they showed that they have some promising young talent. If Bedard can avoid injury, as well, this team has the potential to be something special.
Davidson has a big offseason ahead of him. The Blackhawks are in a position to make a big move. And that could involve the fourth overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
