Bill Simmons slams the Bulls for letting Coby White go in “trade of the year”

There’s no denying that Coby White went from surviving to thriving. He had gone from just scrapping to get by with the Chicago Bulls to hitting big playoff buckets with the Charlotte Hornets.

As a result, the Bulls must be pulling out their metaphorical hair after they traded him to Charlotte back in February. So leave it to NBA media personality Bill Simmons to speak for so many in Chicago, per The Bill Simmons Podcast.

And for calling the trade for what it is.

“Can I give you guys my theme of the night…Bad teams give away good players too soon…Coby White was f%cking awesome, man. And I was electric watching him..Coby hit some big boy shots down the stretch for Charlotte to save their season.”

“That was the trade of the year.”

The result was the Bulls being bereft of core talent after trading White, Ayo Dosunmu, Nikola Vucevic, and Kevin Huerter. In the end, the Bulls finished at 31-51. Meanwhile, the Hornets came away at 44-38 to be in a position to notch a place in the playoffs.

In his first 21 games, White averaged 15.6 points and shooting 46.1% from the field. Before that, White averaged 18.6 points and 4.7 assists per game in his final time with the Bulls.

Now, Chicago is undergoing a major restructuring. They recently fired VP Arturas Karnisovas and GM Marc Eversley. At the same time, head coach Billy Donovan is waiting on bated breath for what’s next for him. Plus, the Bulls got two first-round draft picks, courtesy of the Portland Trail Blazers winning in the Play-In Tournament.
