Big injury update on Phillies’ top prospect comes with a catch

While the Philadelphia Phillies continue to focus on the 2026 season, the club’s top prospect is attempting to bounce back from injury. On Tuesday, that prospect received a big update regarding his status, but it did come with a catch.

Aidan Miller, who is the No. 1-ranked prospect in the Phillies’ organization, is said to be increasing his activity while dealing with a lower back injury, according to MLB.com. However, his return date remains a mystery, and Miller is not able to swing a bat just yet. For now, he remains out.

“Miller has started to ‘increase his activity’ with rotational exercises, but there is no timetable for his return,” claimed the report. “As previously reported, Miller has not started to swing a bat.”

Aidan Miller, who plays shortstop, was the No. 27 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. He is highly regarded for his skills at the plate, as the 21-year-old infielder is believed to be a major asset in the lineup in the future. He is projected to make his major league debut in 2026, but that likely won’t happen until he fully recovers from the lower back injury.

In three seasons in the minor leagues, Miller has flashed potential as a solid offensive contributor. He tends to be a better contact hitter who could still add power to his game. Miller has yet to play a single game in 2026 so far. From 2023 through 2025, he owns a .265 batting average and .383 OBP while recording 237 hits, 25 home runs, 104 RBIs, and 86 stolen bases.

Once healthy, Miller will likely assume his starting role at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Depending on his production in 2026, there is a chance the Phillies call him up to the majors at some point this season.
