BBL 2025-26: 'We'll definitely see the best of him next week' - Glenn Maxwell gets massive backing from Peter Siddle
Former Australia cricketer and Melbourne Stars fast bowler Peter Siddle has backed teammate and star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell to bring on his knack for delivering on big occasions, as the Big Bash League 2025-26 playoffs are on the horizon. The Stars finished the BBL league phase with six wins from ten encounters.
Siddle emphasised that Maxwell had enough experience and credibility to make it count during high-pressure situations. The veteran was convinced Maxwell will put on a much superior show during the Stars' upcoming match.
"He's in that position at the moment. You've just got to let him go, just to make sure he's comfortable and happy. He's starred at World Cups in knockout games and starred in knockout tournaments. He'll know what to do, so I think we'll definitely see the best of him next week," stated Siddle, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
The 41-year-old complimented the Victoria cricketer for being a guiding light to the youngsters in the team. Siddle, who has picked up 15 wickets in the season for the Melbourne-based side, shared how the all-rounder's encouraging words have ensured the younger batters gained confidence and were able to deliver when in the middle.
"He would have loved to have done more, but he's still been great. The way he talks to the boys and especially the young batters, he's helped them, and they probably had better seasons than we expected anyway. As much as he mightn't have starred with the bat, his words and his leadership with those younger batters has played a great role," he added.
Melbourne Stars have not won the BBL even once despite reaching the summit clash on three occasions (2015-16, 2018-19 and 2019-20). They are the only team in the history of the competition to have not won the BBL even once. Hobart Hurricanes, Melbourne Renegades, Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder have won the competition once.
Maxwell has had a severely under-par season with only 67 runs scored in seven innings while striking at only 113.55. He has scored only five fours and three sixes throughout these innings so far. The Stars will be wishing the senior all-rounder produces one of those berserk knocks to inject further momentum into their innings in their next match.
