Barcelona make progress towards €30m Marcus Rashford deal following agent talks

Barcelona are moving towards an agreement for Marcus Rashford in the summer, as they hope to retain the England international. It seems that they will have no other choice but to activate the €30m option to buy him agreed with Manchester United last year.

Rashford, despite not being a regular starter throughout, has settled well at Barcelona earning the praise of manager Hansi Flick and Director of Football Deco. The Blaugrana are keen to keep him, and Rashford has publicly voiced his desire to remain at the club. There had been a suggestion that they would try to negotiate down the price of Rashford with United.

Barcelona accept Manchester United conditions

According to Sport, Barcelona now consider the €30m price for Rashford fair. The Red Devils are unwilling to budge on the conditions agreed last summer, believing that it is more than a good deal. Barcelona as such have decided to focus their efforts on making the deal affordable elsewhere.

With Manchester United unwilling to negotiate on a new deal, Barcelona will ask Rashford to take a significant pay cut in order to join the club. Even with that, the Catalan side intend to hand Rashford a long contract in order to spread out the money better – although La Liga regulations mean the salary limit impact will only be spread over four years.

Rashford has already accepted a lower wage in order to make the loan move happen, and it appears he is willing to do so again. Fabrizio Romano confirms that talks between Barcelona and his agents have move a deal closer, and Rashford has reportedly told his representatives that his priority is to stay at Barcelona, and he is willing to do his bit in order to make it happen.
