Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog’s immediate reaction to 3-0 series lead vs. Kings

The Colorado Avalanche beat the Los Angeles Kings 4-2 on Thursday, taking a 3-0 series lead in the first round. The series has featured three tight games, but the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Avs have come out on top each time. Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog spoke with Dan Greenspan of NHL.com about the team’s process through three games.

“Sticking with it, sticking with what we’re doing, continue to do what’s working for us, and improve what we can do better. I think it’s as simple as that,” Landeskog said. “It doesn’t change whether it’s after Game 1, 2, or 3, our approach is still going to be the same.”

Landeskog has two goals so far in the series, including the game-opener on Thursday night. After injuries cost him multiple seasons, Landeskog played 60 games in the regular season and has been a key part of the offense so far in the postseason.

“It’s been tough sledding to create offense, but we have different guys stepping up on different nights and scoring in different situations, even if it’s just one to do it to make the difference,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar told Greenspan.

The Avalanche are now just one win away from securing a berth in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Everyone picked Colorado to dispatch the Kings, and these games have been closer than some expected. But depth goals from forwards like Landeskog and Nicolas Roy have helped secure the wins.

Game 4 of the Avalanche-Kings series is on Sunday afternoon at Crypto.com Arena. If the Kings can pull off a win in that game, they’ll come back to Colorado for Game 5 on Wednesday. Nathan MacKinnon, Martin Necas, and Nazem Kadri have combined for zero goals so far this series, and it just does not matter.
