The Avalanche previously had 119 points in the 2021-22 season. Now, after the Avs won the Presidents’ Trophy, they hope to make it through four grueling rounds and win the Stanley Cup for the second time in five seasons. It’s been a great season for the team, as they got off to a scorching start and maintained it throughout. Toward the end, they also held off the Dallas Stars.
Nathan MacKinnon led the Avalanche with 53 goals and 127 total points. Additionally, Martin Necas finished with 38 goals and 100 total points, shattering his previous career high of 83, set last season. Cale Makar was also elite, generating 20 goals and 79 total points in 75 games. Colorado finished first in overall scoring in the NHL.
MacKenzie Blackwood and Scott Wedgewood were also excellent, splitting the crease this season. Blackwood went 36-23-2 with a 2.51 goals-against average and a save percentage of .904. Meanwhile, Wedgewood went 31-6-6 with a 2.02 goals-against average and a save percentage of .921.
The Avalanche battled injuries toward the end of the season. While Makar recently returned, Nazem Kadri missed the last few games. Kadri hopes to return for the First Round. The Avalanche will start the First Round on Sunday against the Los Angeles Kings at Ball Arena and play there again on Tuesday before the series shifts to Southern California on Thursday for Game 3 at Crypto. After winning the Presidents’ Trophy, the pressure will be on the Avs to continue their momentum.
