Auburn beat out Notre Dame in heated battle for 4-star OT

Auburn football secured a major 2027 recruiting win on Monday as four-star offensive tackle Layton Von Brandt announced his commitment to the Tigers during a live broadcast on the Rivals YouTube Channel. Von Brandt, from Middletown (Del.) Appoquinimink High School, chose Auburn over Notre Dame, Penn State, Florida, Tennessee, and Ohio State.

Von Brandt is ranked as the Rivals Industry’s No. 5 offensive tackle and is listed as the nation’s No. 75 overall prospect. In the 247Sports Composite rankings, he is the No. 64 overall player nationally, the No. 5 offensive tackle, and the No. 1 player from Delaware. ESPN’s SC Next 300 places him at No. 40 overall and No. 6 among offensive tackles, while also ranking him as the highest-rated recruit out of Delaware in the ESPN recruiting era since 2006.

His commitment marks Auburn’s eighth pledge in the 2027 recruiting class, which Rivals has ranked No. 25 nationally. Von Brandt is also the second-highest ranked player in the Tigers’ class, behind Myson Johnson-Cook, and joins fellow offensive line commit Jaylon Moore, who committed on April 29, giving Auburn two offensive linemen in the cycle.

Von Brandt was previously committed to the Nittany Lions in November 2024 before decommitting in October 2025 following the firing of James Franklin. He was later re-offered by the Penn State’s new staff on December 12, 2025.

The lineman stands at 6-foot-6 and weighs around 265-290 pounds. He took visits this spring to Auburn, Florida, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech before finalizing his decision.

Under first-year head coach Alex Golesh, the Tigers continue to build momentum in the 2027 cycle. Auburn also added four-star running back Myson Johnson-Cook and linebacker Kareem Palmer recently, with Von Brandt joining a class that now includes four SC Next pledges and three top-100 recruits.
