Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid

  • Arsenal to win & over 1.5 goals @ 20/21
  • Piero Hincapie to score at anytime @ 14/1

Gunners have the firepower to reach the final

Arsenal are closing in on Premier League and Champions League glory and, while there is much work to be done, the Gunners can blast past Atletico Madrid to reach the final of Europe’s premier competition.

The north Londoners are level with Atletico following a 1-1 draw at the Metropolitano last week and Mikel Arteta’s men are fancied to turn the tie in their favour at the Emirates.

Arsenal were 4-0 winners over Diego Simone’s men in the league phase of the Champions League and, although the Gunners were playing with more fluidity back in October, there have been positive signs from the north Londoners in recent weeks.

Arsenal were the better team when losing 2-1 to title rivals Manchester City at the Etihad, before beating Newcastle 1-0 and Fulham 3-0.

The Gunners created a whopping expected goals number of 3.22 and hit 18 shots on goal in excellent success over the Cottagers.

The performance level against Fulham should renew the confidence of Arteta’s men and this is an Arsenal team which has hit 62 goals in 24 home games this term.

Atletico are capable of being dangerous opposition in knockout football, but the Madrid men have won only three of their last 11 matches and they have fallen behind Villarreal into fourth place in La Liga.

Arsenal are 20/21 to win a second-leg tie which features at least two goals and that looks well worth taking.

Hincapie can make Arsenal happy

Arsenal scored from the penalty spot in Madrid last week and the Gunners can also be considered a little unfortunate not to be awarded another penalty.

The north Londoners’ strike didn’t come from a corner or free-kick, but set-plays are likely to be a key weapon for Arteta’s side on Tuesday night.

Piero Hincapie has notched only once in 19 Premier League starts for the Londoners this term, but the full-back could get on the scoresheet in Madrid.

The Ecuadorian is averaging 0.83 shots on goal per 90 minutes in the Champions League this term, which indicates that he is more of a goal threat than his scoring record suggests and the 24-year-old can find the net against a suspect Atleti defence.
