Angels’ Mike Trout shares heartfelt message after Garret Anderson’s passing

On Friday, the Los Angeles Angels announced that Garret Anderson has passed away at 53 years old. The Angels are planning to honor Anderson by wearing a memorial patch for the remainder of the 2026 MLB season and by holding a moment of silence and playing a tribute video before Friday night’s game against the San Diego Padres. Angels star outfielder Mike Trout also took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a heartfelt message following Anderson’s passing.

“Garret Anderson was a huge part of Angels history and inspired so many of us who wear this uniform. Keeping his family in my thoughts and prayers,” Trout wrote.

Anderson was a three-time All-Star. He also played a crucial role for the Angels during the 2002 season, which was the year when the ball club won the World Series. The 2002 championship is still the only World Series victory in Angels franchise history.

Former Angels player Tim Salmon, who was also on the 2002 team, shared a post on X after Anderson’s passing as well.

“GA we will miss you greatly. ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’ Phil 4:13. My brother in Christ we will be reunited again,” Salmon wrote.

Anderson was one of the greatest hitters in Angels franchise history without question. He retired as a .293 overall career hitter. In 2002, Anderson finished fourth in American League MVP voting after hitting .306/.332/.539 to go along with 29 home runs and 56 doubles.

Garret Anderson, a member of the Angels Hall of Fame, was clearly respected around the MLB world. He will certainly be missed.
