Analyst hits Texas Tech football with ‘desperate’ diss over Brendan Sorsby debacle

With the news surrounding the ruling of Texas Tech football quarterback Brendan Sorsby being eligible to play next season for the program, it has led to a bevy of opinions. While the final confirmation regarding the 2026 status of the Texas Tech football player in Sorsby is yet to be revealed, this analyst gives insight into the school and how they’re acting regarding the story.

College football insider Bruce Feldman spoke to Paul Finebaum on his self-titled show, where he was asked why the Red Raiders are going all-in on Sorsby, especially after the serious gambling scandal he’s been under. Feldman would express how “desperate” the program is to be “nationally relevant.”

“Because they’re desperate, they are desperate to be nationally relevant and to compete at the highest level. It’s the Big 10 in the SEC, and the Big 12, to a large degree, felt like it was getting left behind. Obviously, Texas and Oklahoma left the conference behind, and so Texas Tech, with its billionaire booster, who’s a former player, Cody Campbell, I think, saw an opportunity that he went all in, and he’s done that in a lot of ways,” Feldman said.

Feldman would continue talking about the Texas Tech football team and how Sorsby is the answer to the school’s question of the missing piece after a disappointing finish in the College Football Playoff (CFP) last season.

“They had a really good year last year, but it wasn’t a great year,” Feldman said. “They got blown out by Oregon; their quarterback, who was a pretty good quarterback, Behren Morton, threw two picks, fumbled another time, didn’t score a touchdown. I think they looked at it and said, “Who’s the best quarterback we can lure to get here? We’re going to throw a fortune at him, and see if it gives us a better chance to to make a real run at a national title,’ and I think that’s what’s that’s what’s behind all this.”

At any rate, it remains to be seen what Sorsby’s playing status for 2026 looks like for the Red Raiders.
