Adam Silver revisits what triggered NBA’s action against tanking

The NBA will utilize anti-tanking rules for every team in the league starting with the 2027 NBA Draft. After some time of complaints from fans and analysts alike, something seemingly had to be done to make drastic changes moving forward. Before the start of the 2026 NBA Draft, Commissioner Adam Silver revisited what led to the league’s finally making changes.

Silver, who is 64 years old, claimed that the incentive to tank became too strong in the NBA, according to insider Brett Siegel. He admitted that once about a third of the league were allegedly tanking, it was time for the league to step in and switch things up.

“We will not be returning to a system where there is an incentive to be bad. It caught up to us through the years,” Silver said… “Once a third of our teams were acting under those incentives, everyone came together.”

This story is currently developing, and more information will be published soon.
