Aces’ A’ja Wilson makes WNBA history with all-around brilliance vs. Sparks

A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces banked on a strong performance in the third quarter to survive the Los Angeles Sparks, 79-69, at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday.

The Aces improved to 6-3, while the Sparks fell to 4-5.

Las Vegas, which was coming off a win over the Golden State Valkyries on Sunday, went on an 8-0 run in the third period to erect a double-digit lead. Los Angeles put up a fight in the final quarter with its stingy defense, but the defending champions managed to hold on for the victory.

Wilson had another all-around outing for the Aces with game-highs of 25 points, 15 rebounds, and five blocks. She also had three steals.

According to Real App, the four-time MVP now has the most games in league history with at least 25 points, 15 rebounds, and five blocks, breaking a tie with Sylvia Fowles.

StatMuse added that Wilson is the only player in the last four years to record such numbers.

Before the season, the 29-year-old Wilson resigned with the Aces on a three-year deal worth $5 million, the largest in league history. She reiterated that she is fully committed to Las Vegas.

“I know exactly where I am. I love Vegas. I’m not leaving Vegas. I’m looking to win another one. I’m looking to defend a championship that we have in Las Vegas. I’m looking to get better as a leader, as a player. Everything else just kind of falls in line,” said Wilson in a report from ESPN’s Kareem Copeland in April.

Jackie Young had 16 points, four rebounds, and nine assists against the Sparks, while Chelsea Gray added 12 points, four rebounds, 11 assists, and two steals.

The Aces will look for their third straight win on Saturday against the Golden State Valkyries.
