ACC NBA Draft dominance over SEC highlighted by staggering number

The 2026 NBA Draft is adding new Atlantic Coast Conference representation Tuesday and Wednesday. Which hands the ACC the upper hand over the SEC outside of the football field. Duke’s Cam Boozer and North Carolina’s Caleb Wilson already lead the new ACC contingent.

But there’s a staggering number that surfaced ahead of the first round.

Per OptaSTATS, the ACC has produced an astonishing 248 total first rounders since 2000.

“That is 52 more first rounders than the next closest conference (SEC, 196),” the account added.

Cooper Flagg represents the last ACC talent to land at No. 1 overall, with the Dallas Mavericks taking the Duke star one year ago. This time BYU standout AJ Dybantsa is the projected top overall pick, which hands the Big 12 the win here in producing the No. 1.

However, Boozer presented his own case for going first overall in showing versatility for Duke. He comes with notable bloodlines too, as his father is nine-time NBA All-Star Carlos Boozer. Many scouts and analysts laud the younger Boozer’s high basketball IQ thanks to time spent with his father.

Wilson isn’t shy about oozing confidence, though. The Tar Heels star envisions becoming the greatest ever, sparking a new “GOAT” debate before the draft kicks off.

Boozer and Wilson aren’t the only ACC stars likely to hear their names called on night one. Louisville point guard Mikel Brown Jr. lands at No. 6 to the Brooklyn Nets as Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints calls. Ebuka Okorie of Stanford is another ACC star predicted to land in the first round at No. 23 to the Atlanta Hawks.

As for the SEC, Darius Acuff of Arkansas rises as its best draft prospect with the Sacramento Kings picked to take him seventh overall.
