‘Oooooooo’ – Ben Stokes left in agony as ball smashes him in groin TWICE

Ben Stokes was left in agony of day four of the second Ashes Test after being hit in the unmentionables TWICE.

The captain was trying to save the game for England after two shambolic days left the visitors staring a 2-0 deficit in the face.

He was batting alongside Will Jacks when he was first hit before it happened again.

The second time was much worse than the first, leaving Stokes on the deck doubled over in pain.

It came from a relatively quick Michael Neser delivery.

When it happened, Stokes could be heard audibly on the stump mic.

He didn’t get many words out with it just being ‘Ooooooooo’, and that was it.

The skipper needed quite a bit of time to recover with the physio coming on, though, he couldn’t do much.

Instead, he dealt with it himself before carrying on.

He and Jacks put on the longest partnership of the series as they looked to save The Ashes, but unfortunately, shortly after Stokes was hit, Jacks didn’t last long.

Unlike some of his teammates, he wasn’t guilty of throwing his wicket away and got out to a wonderful one-handed Steve Smith catch.

Stokes was joined by Gus Atkinson and made his 50 before falling to a Neser delivery that Alex Carey did very well to gather behind the stumps.

With his exit, England’s fate was al but sealed, and Australia knocked off the runs with ease.

They needed just 65 to win and take a 2-0 lead, and that will hurt Stokes more than being hit in the crown jewels.

They won by eight wickets and leave England staring down the barrel of a 5-0 whitewash.

Series over?

From 2-0 down, it is hard to see how England get back into this series now.

Australia are very good at closing things out from a commanding position, and they are set to welcome captain Pat Cummins back for the third Test.

Nathan Lyon is probably also in line for a return as well after being dropped for this Test at The Gabba.

After day one, England were in a good position, having scored 334 on a traditionally difficult wicket.

Joe Root finally ended his hoodoo by scoring a century Down Under and even matching Sir Ian Botham’s score on this ground from the 1986-87 series.

But they somehow ended day two trailing by 44 with four wickets in hand for the Aussies.

If England had managed to nip out the last four wickets early on day three, they would have stood much more of a chance.

Instead, they couldn’t get them out, and by the time Australia’s innings ended, they had a lead of close to 180 and had racked up over 500.

After a decent start from Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett, the rest of the England batting line-up collapsed.

This left them trailing by 43 at the end of day three with just four wickets left.

Stokes and Jacks did all they could, but in the end, it wasn’t enough, and it will be 2-0 very soon.
