76ers vs. Celtics 2026 NBA Playoffs Game 5 prediction, odds, pick
The 2026 NBA Playoffs continue to heat up as we’re back for another prediction and pick inside this Eastern Conference First round series. The Philadelphia 76ers visit the Boston Celtics for Game 5, Boston leading the series 3-1. Check our NBA Playoffs odds series for the 76ers-Celtics prediction and pick.
The Philadelphia 76ers risk elimination on the road following the Celtics’ dominant 128-96 win in Game 4. 76ers’ Joel Embiid returned for his first playoff game while nearing a triple-double effort, but it was Boston’s Payton Pritchard who stole the show with a game-high 32 points on the road with Jayson Tatum adding 30.
The Philadelphia 76ers are a positive 24-14 when Joel Embiid is on the floor, but they’ll have to overcome great odds in bouncing back from down 3-1 and needing to win two more games on Boston’s home floor.

Keys to 76ers vs. Celtics Matchup
With hopes high in Philadelphia thanks to the return of Joel Embiid making his NBA Playoffs debut, the Celtics didn’t allow any momentum inside Xfinity Mobile Arena as they led for 96% of the minutes while scoring 39 points in the third quarter to completely pull away. Behind a strong 30 points from Jayson Tatum, it was Payton Pritchard who stepped up in the biggest moment for Boston on 12-21 from the field in 35 minutes of action. Jaylen Brown added 20 points, but Pritchard’s six-made threes was evidence enough that the Celtics made a concerted effort to get him the ball early and often.
Despite looking rusty (1-6) from three, Joel Embiid looked like his typical self with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists, but he led his team in shot attempts as the offense clearly slowed down with him back in the lineup. Tyrese Maxey was effective with 22 points, but he played all 40 minutes and would typically be scoring much more without Embiid on the floor. There’s no question that they’re a better team when Embiid is active, but it’ll be about meshing him back into this high-pace offense they’ve set throughout these playoffs.
Still, it doesn’t seem likely that the 76ers will be able to steal three-straight wins to win this series as the Celtics have been consistently dominant at home this season as well as agains the spread. Jayson Tatum has added a whole new scoring level that this roster has been without all season, immediately boosting Boston as the No. 1 overall offense (123.9) in these playoffs ahead of the Thunder and Spurs. As it stands, the NBA’s best team could be coming out of the Eastern Conference if Boston can continue this pace.
Still, the 76ers have beaten the Celtics on three occasions this season, two of those wins coming at the TD Garden. They have the recipe to beat them on an off-shooting night if Philadelphia can respond with their own success from deep. Watch for VJ Edgecombe, Paul George, and Kelly Oubre to try their hand from three early as they try to swing the early momentum in their favor.
76ers vs. Celtics Prediction and Pick
The 76ers have put up a valiant effort throughout this series, but it’s clear the Boston Celtics are too deep of a roster that’s clearly built for a championship this season. While the 76ers should be able to cover the spread as double-digit underdogs, it’ll be tough for them to overcome the road disadvantage coming in off a disappointing loss with Joel Embiid back in the lineup.
I expect the Celtics’ defense to once again have all the answers for Joel Embiid in the paint as head coach Joe Mazzulla has been masterful in game planing for every situation up to this point. Expect Jaylen Brown to come up clutch for Boston late in the game as he’s been relatively quiet, but it’s exactly what they’ll need him to do in closing out elimination games like this.
For our final pick, we’ll take Philadelphia to cover with their backs against the wall as Boston advance to the semifinals.
Final 76ers-Celtics Game 5 Prediction & Pick: Philadelphia 76ers +11.5 (-105); OVER 215.5 (-105)
