76ers’ Andre Drummond of all people drills trey vs. Magic before halftime

The Philadelphia 76ers are playing the Orlando Magic in an important NBA Play-in Tournament clash Wednesday night in the City of Brotherly Love, and among those the Sixers are counting on to deliver is veteran big man Andre Drummond.

Philadelphia is seeing action without former NBA Most Valuable Player Joel Embiid in the fold after he went under the knife for an appendectomy. With Embiid reduced to being just a spectator for this contest, Drummond, along with Adem Bona, is carrying most of the load in the Sixers frontcourt.

Drummond even turned heads when he surprised the Magic with a 3-pointer just before the end of the first half.

With the 76ers ahead by just a point and with only under a minute left in the second quarter, Tyrese Maxey attacked the Magic’s interior defense and got Orlando’s entire attention.

So much so that the Magic completely forgot about Drummond, who was wide open on the right corner. Wendell Carter Jr., who was Drummond’s primary defender, gave too much space for his 76ers counterpart, who made the Magic pay with his 3-pointer.

You can check out his long bomb here:

Drummond is not known for his ability to hit daggers from deep, but he’s made a considerable effort to join in on the 3-point revolution in the NBA.

His 3-point attempt rate from his rookie season in 2012-13 to 2023-24 was just at 0.14 percent. In the last two seasons (including the 2025-26 campaign), that increased to 19.3 percent.

Drummond had seven points on 3-for-4 shooting coming off the bench in the first half of the Magic game.
