$67m Knicks star makes good on parade promise after defying teammates with unique tastes

Mitchell Robinson made good on his promise to bring his one-of-a-kind truck to the New York Knicks parade.

The big man, who underwent surgery after he suffered a broken right pinkie finger ahead of the NBA Finals, battled back to feature in all five games of the legendary series against the San Antonio Spurs.

After the Larry O’Brien Trophy was secured last weekend, Robinson made a vow for the championship parade.

“I got asked to put my truck in it, so I’m gonna be really excited. I’m putting my truck in the parade,” he told reporters after Game 5.

And, come Thursday, he delivered amid the chaos that saw a talkSPORT host ‘flattened’ by an NYPD officer.

Robinson pulled up in one of his custom rides, which he has previously been seen driving out of Madison Square Garden after Knicks games, and offered a quick interview as the celebrations got under way.

“I feel great,” he said, leaning out of the window.

“Just excited to be here.

“It’s been amazing, soaking everything in, really realizing that we’re world champions, it’s insane.”

He then explained why he chose one specific pickup for the parade.

“The orange theme, I felt like it would be good for the truck, and also my personality, so I wanted to bring her out.”

Robinson was later seen in and amongst the parade action, standing on the flatbed of his truck, signing jerseys and passing them back out to the crowd.

He was also seen holding a sign that read: “Thank you fans.”

Mitchell Robinson boasts impressive truck collection

Unlike many of his fellow NBA stars, Robinson is a country boy at heart, despite being born in Florida.

He hasn’t built a collection of super cars with his $67 million career earnings, and has instead focused on trucks.

According to online reports, the Knicks center has been linked to large Ford builds, including a Ford F-250 Platinum known as ‘Big Blue’, a Whipple-supercharged Ford F-150 and other Ford Super Duty models.

Robinson discussed his love for country music during the NBA Finals series, which saw him tame Spurs standout Victor Wembanyama.

He’s an avid fan of the genre, even if many within the sport don’t share his taste.

“I love my country music,” Robinson said after Game 2.

“That’s all I listen to.

“Dealing with these guys, they don’t listen to it. So that’s why, you know, I got my headphones now.

“Maybe if they listened to it, they’ll understand, but they’re silly.”

With his love for country music, and his extensive truck collection, Robinson’s personality has helped endear him to Knicks fans across his eight seasons with the team.

New York’s longest-tenured player is out of contract this summer, and is preparing to hit the open market.

The Knicks would no doubt love to re-sign their big man, but he’s also expected to draw serious interest from other teams.

If he does depart, he’ll have gone out on a high in Thursday’s parade.
