49ers one of 3 biggest losers from Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft

The 2026 NFL Draft has been packed with plenty of exciting moves. Day 2 lived up to the hype established during the first round with several trades and a number of surprising picks throughout the night. Eight NFL teams made their first selections of the draft after missing out on the first round.

Now that three full rounds are in the books, it is easier to see which teams are thriving or struggling in the draft. At least in comparison to the consensus big boards in the media.

Not every team came out of Day 2 looking good. In fact, a handful of teams will be under pressure to turn things around on Day 3.

Three teams stand out as the biggest losers from Day 2 of the draft.

49ers open up Day 2 with shocking selection of De’Zhaun Stribling

Picks: WR De’Zhaun Stribling (33rd overall), EDGE Romello Height (70th overall), RB Kaelon Black (90th overall)

San Francisco started the night out with a surprise. Stribling gained a lot of attention in the weeks leading up to the draft. However, nobody expected him to go off the board that high.

The 49ers already have Mike Evans, Ricky Pearsall, and Christian Kirk as their presumed starters. That is a good trio, which could keep Stribling on the sidelines during his rookie season. Ultimately, San Francisco got terrible value for a player they probably could have landed on Day 3.

Height is a good pick at edge rusher who significantly upgrades the team’s depth at the position. But it remains to be seen how much he’ll play in 2026 with Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams locked in as starters.

Black gives the 49ers a new power running back behind Christian McCaffrey and Jordan James. It is a solid pick, but surprising considering their needs at other positions on defense.

Bills fans should be dissapointed with draft haul so far

Picks: EDGE T.J. Parker (35th overall), CB David Igbinosun (62nd overall)

At this point, Bills fans might be frustrated with their team’s approach to the draft.

Buffalo traded down three times in the first round, loading up on mid-round picks. The Bills still have six picks coming on Day 3, so the story is not over yet. But Buffalo’s draft haul is underwhelming so far.

Parker was an excellent pick early in the second round. He projects as a long-term starter next to Greg Rousseau and immediate depth behind Bradley Chubb.

However, the Bills reached when picking Igbinosun at 62nd overall. Most consensus draft boards had him going about 30 spots lower.

Ultimately, Buffalo could have picked Parker at 26th overall and Igbinosun at 91st overall (the picks they entered the draft with) and looked totally fine. What’s the point in making so many trades down if you aren’t netting more players?

The pressure will be on Buffalo to have a strong performance on Day 3.

Jaguars make multiple surprising picks on Day 2

Picks: TE Nate Boerkircher (56th overall), DT Albert Regis (81st overall), G Emmanuel Pregnon (88th overall), S Jalen Huskey (100th overall)

Jaguars GM James Gladstone is doing things his own way. That strategy may not have worked out well in Day 2 of the draft.

Boerkircher is an underrated tight end prospect who could develop into a solid starter. But drafting him in the second round is a huge reach, especially with Brenton Strange already on the roster.

Jacksonville was smart to add talent at defensive tackle, but Regis projects as nothing more than a role player in the NFL.

Huskey is by far the most surprising pick of the night for the Jaguars. ESPN’s Seth Walder was shocked by this pick at the end of Day 2.

“This is a big surprise to finish Day 2. Entering Thursday, ESPN’s Draft Day Predictor gave Huskey an 18% chance to be drafted — let alone at the end of the third round,” Walder wrote. “He mostly played safety at Maryland, though he also spent some time at nickelback. Huskey should be a depth safety for the Jaguars.”

But there is some good news, Jaguars fans. Pregnon was an excellent value pick at 88th overall. He will push Ezra Cleveland for a starting spot during training camp.
