4-star tight end’s UCLA commitment will catch Ohio State’s attention
UCLA football pivoted to Bob Chesney in attempting to reignite the Bruins. Now he delivered a huge College Football Recruiting win, which will catch Ohio State’s attention. Four-star tight end Zac Fares is the newest commit.
Fares hands Chesney a future 6-foot-5, 225-pound target. The Las Vegas talent confirmed his decision with Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals Saturday.
Yet here’s why Fares grabs the eyes of Buckeye fans: OSU was in the mix for Arbor View High talent.
“I’m very excited to be a Bruin, I love the direction the program is going,” Fares said to Greg Biggins in his conversation with On3/Rivals. “UCLA is a great all around fit and a great spot for me.”
The proximity became another reason why Fares chose the Bruins.
“They’re close to home and that’s an added bonus but it’s more about the fit in the offense and my relationship with the coaches,” Fares said. “I was the first tight end coach (Drew) Canan) offered when he got to UCLA and that meant a lot to me.”
Ohio State isn’t the only blue blood program he turns down.
Texas appeared on his recruiting radar, then fell into his short list. He had a future visit to Austin in the works too.
Cal landed on his recruiting visit schedule. The Golden Bears added four-star TE Charles Davis on Friday, however, out of Westlake High in California’s Ventura County.
Now UCLA secures one of the top Sin City talents for the 2027 class and a possible future Nico Iamaleava target if the quarterback plays beyond 2026 in Westwood.
